JinkoSolar will serve as the team’s exclusive solar sponsor for the 2011-2012 NFL season. “Our agreement with JinkoSolar is a reflection of the San Francisco 49ers’ dedication to promoting environmentally friendly practices within our facilities and throughout the greater community,” said Paraag Marathe, Chief Operating Officer for the 49ers. “As we look to the future with a new stadium, we plan to incorporate significant green building and design elements, including energy and water conservation measures in addition to the use of clean solar power. Under the terms of the agreement, JinkoSolar will display its signage in a variety of locations within the team’s stadium, Candlestick Park, including the scoreboard, LED message boards and a prominent ribbon panel. JinkoSolar will also have exclusive branding rights to Gate F in Candlestick Park, which will be known as “JinkoSolar Gate” for the duration of the season.

As part of this agreement, the BYD’s e6, a 5-seat, pure-electric vehicle with the driving range of more than 186 miles (240 km) will be introduced into the Hertz China’s rental fleet making BYD’s e6 the first pure EV for rent in China. The core technology of the e6 FE battery boasts the highest safety, longest service life and most environmentally-friendly rechargeable chemistry (containing no heavy metals or toxic/flammable electrolytes). BYD’s e6 will serve in Hertz’s fleet for multiple groups of Hertz consumers including urban drivers, university students, travelers, and corporations, while bringing them a brand-new environmentally-friendly, EV driving experience.

Located at the Walter J Towers at 1930 Wilshire Boulevard, the project is managed by LA Building Management and was designed and built by LA-based ReGreen Corporation, with design input from both LADWP and the LA Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). Dr. Walter Jayasinghe (j’eye-ya-SING-ha), a Los Angeles physician who emigrated from Sri Lanka as a young man, owns the Walter J Towers.

Energy Education’s accomplishments will be recognized during an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. on April 12. In 25 years, Energy Education has worked with more than 1,100 educational, large church and health organizations nationwide in saving over $2.3 billion in utility costs. An ENERGY STAR partner since 2005, Energy Education received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award in 2009 and 2010.

kasimportrait Mayor Reed sets new sustainable vision for AtlantaWith the start of Atlanta’s Sustainability Week, now through October 29, 2010 Mayor Kasim Reed set out a new  goal for Atlanta to be a top 10 US Sustainable City. The release of Mayor Reed and the City of Atlanta’s Sustainability Plan is the first event of the city’s first Sustainability Week, which runs Oct. 25-29. Each day of the week includes daily activities and programs highlighting different focus areas of the plan, such as water quality and conservation, energy efficiency, jobs growth, local foods, and electric vehicles.

By implementing the plan the City of Atlanta will reduce toxic emissions by 25 percent and reduce energy use for existing municipal operations 15 percent both by 2020. Renewable energy will represent  five percent  of total municipal use by 2015.
Additionally the plan will bring local food within 10 minutes of 75 percent of all residents by 2020. “Being a more sustainable city not only protects and preserves the environment, it makes economic sense for the city,” said Mandy Mahoney, Atlanta’s first Director of Sustainability. “It helps drive financial savings and efficiency and creates jobs.”  The City of Atlanta’s Office of Sustainability already has established a strong track record of success. One of Atlanta’s first wins in sustainability was to become the first city in Georgia to determine its municipal carbon footprint, which occurred in 2008. By 2010, Atlanta reduced its footprint by 12.5 percent.
